Kage, if you read the article, I’m not slagging Umair off. I’m critiquing his writing.

Writers critiquing other writers has happened since the beginning of time, and it’s something you are doing right now in this comment, perhaps without even realising it.

Your whole statement reads like satire in that you sound exactly like the people you are having a go at.

Anyway, I don’t think it’s healthy that, as a culture, we have become so sterile that we can’t even have pot shots at other writers without people wetting the bed because they believe that constantly high-fiving everyone is some kind of spiritual path.

As writers, we should be defending our rights to slag each other off rather than surrendering to the grey, dystopian congratulatory culture — an overextension of political correctness.

People will think things regardless, and if they can’t write about them, they will find another way to play them out. That’s why writing is healing.

Peace in the world means no nuclear weapons. It doesn't mean no bar fights. We are not morally correct motherfucking robots — we are human beings.

As you said, this is a writing platform, and if you think all of the great writers have been polite to one another, you are delusional. The opposite was true.

As much as anything else, conflict has been responsible for some of the most significant writing of our time.

You come in here calling people lazy ‘supposed’ writers because they aren’t giving empty high fives to things that make their nuts shrivel.

Would you rather people just shut the fuck up and suppress their emotions?

You say these people are reducing the platform to another childish extension of social media. But, it is you that is doing that by encouraging the ever-tightening noose of moral code that is already strangling social media platforms and just starting to creep in on Medium.

As writers, censorship is the last thing we need Medium to start imposing on us.

We need to stick together and protect our freedom to punch each other in the gonads with our words.

Anyway, you are entitled to your critique, so welcome and thank you :)

With respect

FTB
